Mexican Travel Insurance

Just like in the United States, Mexico is a country where insurance may not just be wanted but it may be needed by serious travelers! Travel insurance in Mexico consists of the usual health / medical insurance and Mexican auto insurance. Either of these is crucial when going to Mexico because as an international traveler you don’t exactly know what you are going to run into. Insurance means protection and protection means a better peace of mind for travelers going to Mexico.

There are a number of reasons why someone would purchase Mexican travel insurance. Here are just a few of the benefits that await you:

• Joint protection: When it comes to the different types of insurance you can get you can often get joint protection- which means that you can transfer over your health or auto insurance so it works in a different country. You may have to pay an extra fee for this Mexican travel insurance but if anything ever happened you sure would be glad that you got it!
• RV protection: Many people who drive the Mexican border go in an RV, in which case they take advantage of the various features of RV insurance. RV insurance for Mexico is much different then regular auto insurance and it often has more features within it.
• Theft protection: This insurance should cover any lost/ stolen items that you have. If your car gets broken into and someone steals cash or merchandise you will be reimbursed. Most companies will give you up to a couple hundred dollars in a claim.
• Accident cover: Personal accident cover is a benefit you’ll be glad you got in Mexico because you a car accident can happen to anyone but if it does happen to you; at least you’ll be protected. This protection also helps you out if you have missed plane tickets or something of that nature.
• Third party liability: If you accidentally hurt someone else, you will be protected under most insurance plans because of the third party liability clause.

If you decide to get Mexican travel insurance through your current insurance provider then you will have to determine what they are going to give you internationally. Even if you pay a slight fee and think you are getting coverage equal to what you would get in the States, you probably aren’t. Here are a few questions that you would want to ask yourself before making an insurance decision:

• What do I do in case of an emergency, with auto, medical or health?
• How will I be assisted if I need to find a doctor or lawyer?
• Will they contact family members if I am unable to?

Different insurances work in different ways so make sure you find one that fits your lifestyle and your travel needs. Another helpful reminder that not everyone thinks about: Travel insurance has to be bought in the country you live in before you head out for your journey!
