Mexico Travel Documents Are you planning a trip to Mexico? If yes then you will have to prepare a list of travel documents to take with you! In years past you may have been able to sneak across the border with just a photo I.D, possibly a driver’s license, but it isn’t that way anymore! Now, especially with the new 2007 laws, it is harder then ever to get across the Mexican border and it certainly can’t be done with just a driver’s license! If you are serious about driving into Mexico and want to know what you need to bring with you, read the following Mexico travel documents carefully and plan your trips at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance or you may not be able to go! Passport: Your passport is your biggest Mexico travel document. Without this little booklet you will never be allowed across the border- no matter what! Starting January 23, 2007 you need a passport for going into Mexico and/ or Canada. In the past you didn’t need this but now you do. Since you absolutely need a passport, it is wise to obtain it as quickly as possible. It takes about 6 weeks for you to get your passport after applying for it so acting quickly is the best thing you can do. Of course, if you are in a huge hurry you can get yours in one to two weeks but you’re going to pay for it! A passport costs $97 but lasts for 10 years so you will get some good usage out of it. Without this Mexico travel document you won’t ever get across the border- legally! Vehicle registration: You are going to need proof that your car is actually yours (if you drive across the border). You want to have your vehicle registration and your title so you can prove the car you are driving is actually yours! If not, you will most likely be asked to turn around and you won’t be admitted to Mexico! Insurance: It is wise to have your insurance documents on you when you make your trip to Mexico because you never know what is going to happen. This relates to health, medical and auto insurance in Mexico because you want to be covered in all aspects. Talk with your current insurance provider to see if they will give you additional coverage to Mexico (it may cost a small fee).It will be worth it to you and by having the actual documentation on hand you will save a lot of time and hassle. RV insurance for Mexico is a must-have if that is the route you take. Various: You are going to want/ need to have back up identifications
with you when you travel to Mexico. These back-up I.D documents can
be: driver’s licenses, state identifications, birth certificates,
ECT. Having these, or at least copies of them, will be to your benefit
in case of an emergency. You don’t want to be struggling around
if you need a document but don’t have access to it! |
