Surf Mexico

If you plan on surfing in Mexico you will want to be as prepared as possible. Mexico surfing can be a great experience and the waves can lead to a great time! However, you will only maximize your surfing experience if you have a complete knowledge about what you are doing. So here we go- a Mexico surf guide!

When it comes to finding crystal blue waves and water that won’t calm you need to go more south then the United States can offer. Mexico can be surfed year round and it is a very consistent surfing environment. All in all there is well over 6000 miles of coastline that can be surfed and over 1500 miles in mainland Pacific! Because of deep Ocean low pressure systems (coming from the South) Mexico enjoys decent sized waves year round.

Here are some of the more popular places to find surf lessons and find waves in Mexico:

• Mazatlan, Sinaloas: These ‘surf adventures’ as they are called, offer boat transfers, hotel rooms for surfers, airport pickup and surf lessons/ classes.
• San Pancho, Nayarit: Here at the Costa Azul Adventure resort you can enjoy full service surfing packages from certified surf instructors.
• La Manzanilla, Jalisco: The Immersion Adventures are the big thing here because they offer custom surf tours and lessons that are accompanied (if you want) by kayak surfing and fishing!
• Cuyutlan, Colima: The surf shop here is one of the best in all of Mexico and is frequented often by the best surfers in the area. The home of the ‘Green Wave’ also has surfing lessons and tips.
• La Saladita, Guerrero: In Guerrero there are several Saladita Surf Camps that are held on the Playa la Saladita beach. These camps bring beginner surfers up a notch and offers them great hotel like services.

If you plan on surfing in Mexico at any of the above locations or maybe another popular spot (there are over 7500 miles of options!) then you should follow the below tips:

• Surf in groups! Surfing in groups is a much safer alternative then going alone, especially since many Mexican beaches have rougher crowds then United States beaches.
• Follow the beach signs! Since sharks can be somewhat prevalent in the area it is wise to see what the beach patrol and lifeguards have put out on the beach as warnings- don’t ignore them!
• Bring extra cash with you! Because there are tons of local surf shops in the area, if you bring a little extra you can grab some souvenirs to take home!

Surfing in Mexico comes with the good and the bad- here are both!

• The good: Un-crowded beaches, consistent waves, cheap surf prices, free beaches and giant waves
• The bad: High crime rates, rough crowds and little lifeguard protection.

Surf Mexico if you want to experience the best you can possibly experience as far as crashing waves, high rolling experience and warm weather. Mexico surfing brings the best of the surf world right to your doorstep!
